Hebrews 11:23-26

The character of Jesus Christ is one of selflessness.  This selflessness comes from resting in confidence in the care, love, power and direction of the LORD (as we see in the example of Moses).  The selflessness of Jesus Christ is first no longer considering our life as most important but what the LORD desires as the central drive of our life.  It is the LORD’s redemption of His people through the redeeming blood of Jesus that is our focus.  Secondly, a character of selflessness keeps us from giving in to the delusion of sin.  This delusion attempts to prevent us from standing up for the holiness of G-d’s people, from doing what benefits the community of believers, and attempts to drag us into valuing things that are empty and useless to our relationship with G-d.  Finally, the selflessness of Jesus keeps us from hindering the next generation of believers from fulfilling G-d’s purposes.  Moses’s parents could see that there was something special about their child and acted in agreement with G-d’s promise to bring His people out of Egypt.  Their fear was in the LORD and not the threats of Pharaoh.  They allowed the deliverer that G-d was raising up to be revealed in the LORD’s timing and plan; just as Jesus was hid in Egypt by Joseph and Mary and then brought back to Galilee as G-d had instructed and promised.  Like the believers before us, we also must work in agreement with the LORD, as He instructs, in fulfilling His purpose for His children; both young and old.

Three Summary Points:

The selfless character of Jesus Christ is established in believers who are fully submitted in fear to the LORD G-d (Numbers 12 and Matthew 25:14-46).

The selfless character of Jesus seeks The FATHER’s will for the salvation of others instead of satisfying our fears and pleasures (Philippians 2:1-5 and Matthew 5:9-10).

The selfless character of Jesus frees the LORD’s children to fulfill His purpose, without manipulation or control (Luke 18:15-17).
